Review: WALK ON WATER
A recent movie which I watch was called "Walk On Water," or "LeLahet Al HaMayim" in Hebrew. It is an Israeli movie directed by Etyan Fox, who also directed "Yossi and Jagger." This film is about an Israeli man (Eyal) who is works for something like the Israeli version of the CIA, going around the world killing people. One day, he comes home to find that his wife has killed herself.

After a month off the job, Eyal feels as if he is ready to return to his work. He has refused to meet with a shrink, and wants to get back to working. Concerned with Eyal's way of dealing with his wife's death, his boss decides to give him an "easy" job. Eyal is assigned to go undercover as a tour guide for this German brother-sister (Axel and Pia), and to try to find out whether if their grandfather, who is a Nazi war criminial, is still living in Argentina, or has returned to Germany.

The film explores via a road trip in Israel several major issues that Israel is facing today, such as Israeli/Palestine issue, Christian/Jew issue, Israeli/German issue and also hetero/homosexual issue. It's an amazing film, where we see a friendship being developed closely between Axel and Eyal. People say that hetero/homo friendships are impossible, but sometimes it is possible to have such a thing, to love for someone deeply as a good friend. This friendship helps Eyal to cope with his wife's death, and also gives the Axel a chance to realise the harsh realities of the world. (Suicide bombings is a daily event in Israel, and the film addresses that.) It is an excellent film, and I definitely recommend for anyone to watch it. Within 24 hours of watching it, I ordered an Israeli copy of the DVD on the internet!
