Review: HAUTE TENSION
I rented a French film under the recommendation of a fellow blogger, who also shares my love for films with gory scenes filled with blood and violence. The film is called "Haute Tension," which is about two close female friends, Alexia and Marie, going away on holiday. They stay at Alexia's family's house out in the middle of nowhere. Suddenly, we see a pyscho killer on the loose, using a decapitated female head to perform fellatio on himself, then throwing the head aside as he drives away in his minivan. Shortly afterwards, we see Marie and Alexia pulling into the driveway in the darkness, which goes through a cornfield. Suddenly, Marie stops in middle of the cornfield because Alexia pretends to have seen something out there... It frightens Marie and then they go to the house.

It is not long after when everyone has gone to bed, when the pyscho killer arrives at the house and hell breaks loose. Alexia ends up being bounded and gagged whilst the killer goes around the house looking for other victims. Marie is able to stay hidden from the killer, and the race is on for her to try and save her friend's life as the killer takes Alexia into his minivan. Is Marie able to save Alexia in time?...

The result is surprising, which took me aback, trying to think back throughout the whole movie. We see nothing but stereotypical French women struggling with a horrendous pyscho killer, who seems to be very much in control of everything. We see a constant struggle between two storylines, even though it does not seem to fit together. We see that the pyscho killer is one messed up individual, as we start to fully understand the state of mind of the killer. The movie addresses the conflict, where the killer struggles with himself, switching between realities and fantasies. There is a lot of twists in the stories, which keeps us surprised as the stories progresses on. After the end of the movie, we are left thinking about how the two storylines actually do fit with each other. The movie teaches us that one person might have many sides inside himself, and it is a constant struggle to him, what the reality and what isn't. I definitely recommend the movie to anyone not because it is a scary and bloody movie, but because it is a wonderful investigation of a serial killer.
